The eligibility criteria to apply for the entrance exam admission for NID programs are mentioned in the NID Admissions Brochure. It states, there are 2 conditions to be eligible to apply for the NID entrance exam – Age and Educational Qualifications. NID offers admission to design programs at Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) level. The eligibility criteria is different for B.Des and M.Des programs as follows:

Only candidates born after 1 July 2003 (i.e. up to 19 years of age) are eligible to apply for admission to B.Des program in 2023-24 academic year. This requirement is relaxed by 3 years for candidates of Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST) and 5 years for candidates of PwD Reserved Category.

Educational Qualification:
Applications for academic year 2023-24 are open to candidates who have passed or will appear for Higher Secondary (10+2) qualifying examination in the academic year 2022-23 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc) from any recognized board such as CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, IB or equivalent or AICTE approved 3 year Diploma after X Std (10+3).
The following examinations are considered equivalent to 10+2 qualification from a recognized board:
- Intermediate or 2 year pre-University examination under a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- HSC vocational examination
- GCE examination at A level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka
- Senior Secondary School examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), with minimum 5 subjects.
- Final exam of the 2 year course of Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
- 10+2 exam of Foreign Schools with certificate of equivalence from AIU

Only candidates born after 1 July 1993 (i.e. up to 29 years of age) are eligible to apply for admission to M.Des program in 2023-24 academic year. This requirement is relaxed by 3 years for candidates of Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST) and 5 years for candidates of PwD Reserved Category.

Educational Qualification:
The candidate must possess one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admission:
- Bachelor degree of minimum 4 years duration after 12th standard or 12th standard equivalent from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: The candidate must have passed the bachelor’s final examination by June 2023. (OR)
- Full time Diploma in Design / Fine / Applied Arts / Architecture of minimum 4 years duration after 12th standard or 12th standard equivalent from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: The candidate must have passed the bachelor’s final examination by June 2023. (OR)
- Bachelor degree of minimum 3 years duration in any specialisation after 12th standard or 12th standard equivalent from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: The candidate must have passed the bachelor’s final examination by 31 August 2022.
Note: In case the degree is obtained from a Foreign University or Institute, a certificate of equivalence from AIU has to be submitted.
