How Maharashtra Merit Score is Calculated
MAHARASHTRA B.ARCH MERIT SCORE FORMULA (OFFICIAL MAHACET)
Merit Score = (NATA Score ÷ 2) + XII / Diploma Aggregate %
Example: NATA = 150, XII = 82% → (150 ÷ 2) + 82 = 157 (Maximum possible = 200)
Why XII marks matter as much as NATA: A 2% difference in XII marks can shift your state merit rank by 200–300 positions. Both scores are equally critical.
JEE Main Paper 2 Candidates: Maharashtra accepts JEE Main Paper 2 scores for B.Arch admissions. Register with your JEE score and the portal will automatically generate your merit rank.
Eligibility Criteria
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian citizen (NRI / OCI / PIO apply under separate category) |
| Class XII Subjects | Physics + Mathematics as compulsory subjects AND one of: Chemistry, Biology, Technical Vocational Subject, Computer Science, IT, Informatics Practices, Engineering Graphics, or Business Studies |
| Minimum XII Marks | 45% aggregate (40% for Reserved / EWS / PwD candidates of Maharashtra State) |
| OR: 10+3 Diploma | Diploma with Mathematics as compulsory subject, minimum 45% aggregate (40% for Reserved / EWS / PwD candidates) |
| Entrance Test | Valid NATA 2026 score OR JEE Main Paper 2 score accepted by MahaCET portal |
| Note | Maharashtra does NOT conduct a separate B.Arch CET. NATA by Council of Architecture (CoA) is the only entrance test. |

| Other Home University (OHU) | Maharashtra State candidates applying outside their own home university zone. Still compete separately from the local HU pool and AI pool. |

Step-by-Step CAP Admission Process
01
Register on cetcell.mahacet.orgFill in personal and academic details. Upload your NATA scorecard and required documents. Pay the application fee (₹800 / ₹600 / ₹5,000 as applicable).
02
E-Scrutiny (Online Document Verification)All verification is online — no physical visit needed. Check portal login for status. Correct any errors within the deadline. Missed corrections = rejection.
03
Merit List DeclarationProvisional Merit List published based on (NATA ÷ 2) + XII%. A grievance window opens before the Final Merit List. Check your rank carefully — raise a grievance immediately if your score appears incorrect.
04
Option Form Filling (Up to 300 choices)During each CAP round, fill your college preferences in order. Up to 300 options allowed. Form reopens between rounds — you can add or change preferences. Once a seat is accepted, that college is removed from the list.
05
Seat Allotment (CAP Rounds I, II, III)Seats allotted based on merit rank, preferences, category, and availability. Pay ₹1,000 seat acceptance fee and upload documents to confirm your allotment.
06
Choose: Freeze or BettermentFreeze = stop here and report to college. Betterment = retain current seat and try for an upgrade in the next round.
07
Physical Reporting to InstituteReport with all original documents on the specified date. Admission is confirmed only after document verification and fee payment at the college. Missing this date cancels your seat — no exceptions.
Freeze vs Betterment — Maharashtra CAP
| Option | What Happens | Seat Safety | Next Round? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto Freeze | System automatically freezes your seat if allotted to your 1st preference college | Confirmed — must report | NO — finalised automatically |
| Self Freeze | You are satisfied with the allotted seat and choose to stop participating | Confirmed — must report | NO — you exit willingly |
| Betterment (Non-Freeze) | Retain current seat as backup AND participate in next round seeking a better college | Retained until next round result | YES — you continue |
Critical Betterment Rules:
- If Betterment gives you a better seat → old seat CANCELLED, new seat confirmed.
- If NO new seat is allotted in next round → you automatically RETAIN your original seat. You will NOT lose it.
- If Betterment gives you a seat you do NOT want → you must accept it or exit the CAP process entirely.
- Option Form reopens after each round — modify preferences. Previously allotted college is removed from your list.
- After Round III (final round) — only Freeze available. All candidates must accept or exit.
⚠ Betterment Strategy: Only choose Betterment if you have a clearly better college to upgrade to. In Round I, Betterment is safe — if no upgrade comes, you keep Round I seat. In Round II Betterment, if a new seat is allotted, you must decide immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is there a separate Maharashtra B.Arch CET exam? | No. Maharashtra does NOT conduct a separate B.Arch CET. NATA (by Council of Architecture) is the only entrance test. You register on cetcell.mahacet.org and your NATA score is used directly in the merit formula. |
| What is the Maharashtra merit formula? | Merit Score = (NATA ÷ 2) + XII aggregate %. Max = 200. Example: NATA 150, XII 82% → 75 + 82 = 157. Ties broken by XII marks, then NATA score, then date of birth. |
| What is Betterment? Can I lose my seat? | Betterment = you retain current seat AND participate in the next round. If a better seat comes: old seat cancelled, new confirmed. If NO new seat comes: you keep your original seat automatically. You will NOT lose it. |
| Can I apply under multiple categories? | Yes. If you qualify as both Maharashtra Type A and All India, register separately for each (separate fee). This lets you compete in both state quota and All India quota simultaneously. |
| What is TFWS and who qualifies? | TFWS (Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme): 5% supernumerary seats per college for Maharashtra candidates with family income below ₹8 lakh/year. Only tuition fee is waived — development fees and other charges still apply. Income certificate required. |
| Does Maharashtra accept JEE Main Paper 2? | Yes. MahaCET accepts JEE Main Paper 2 (B.Arch) scores. The portal maintains separate merit lists for NATA and JEE P2 candidates and merges them for allotment. |
| What is the CAP round seat acceptance fee? | ₹1,000 per round when a seat is allotted. Paid online to confirm your allotment. The application registration fee (₹800/₹600) is a separate upfront charge. |
| What if I miss the E-Scrutiny / document verification deadline? | Your registration will be rejected. All corrections must be made within the deadline shown in your login portal. Check your portal daily during this period — no separate SMS/email is guaranteed. |
