Established in 1986, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a premier institute of fashion, technology, and management that under the Ministry of Textiles of the Government of India
NIFT has 16 campuses across the country with centres at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Gandhinagar, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kannur, Patna, Shillong, Raebareli, Kangra, and Srinagar. Recently, the Ministry of Textiles announced the 17th centre at Panchkula and a centre is expected to show up at Ompora Industrial area, Kashmir.
Every year, NIFT entrance examinations are conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology to shortlist candidates who are seeking admissions to a wide range of graduate as well as post-graduate degree programs in different disciplines of fashion. NIFT selects students in courses such as Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Bachelor of Design (BDes), Master of Fashion Management (MFM), Master of Design (MDes), and Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech) on the basis of NIFT entrance exams.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology follows a three-tiered pattern of NIFT entrance exams for the BDes and MDes course admissions. Candidates have to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) that is then followed by the General Ability Test (GAT) as part of their NIFT entrance exam. For BDes course, the final admission round is a Situation Test and candidates are required, and personal interview rounds for the MDes. Candidates appearing for the MFM and MFTech programs are required to appear CAT, group discussion, and personal interview while GAT is the only criteria of selection for those expressing an interest in the BFTech course.

What is the pattern for the 2024 NIFT Situation Test?

In April 2022, students who are shortlisted for the NIFT B. Des. course after the written entrance examination (GAT and CAT papers) are required to undergo a Situation Test. The aspiring students who are preparing for the Nift Situation Test 2022 are advised to comprehensively go through the NIFT entrance exam sample papers to gain a clear and complete understanding of what to expect. Please note that the above fee structure for different NIFT courses is only for the academic year 2024-2025. The fee for Indian students gets increased by 10 per cent every year while the fees for NRI students get increased by 5 per cent every year.
What is the medium of instruction at NIFT?
The only medium of instructions at the NIFT campuses is English. The language for GAT, CAT, Situation Test, Group discussion, and Personal interview is also English.
Does NIFT offers Campus Placement for its students?
Will NIFT conduct interviews for admissions in 2024?
The National Institute of Fashion Technology will not conduct any interviews of candidates applying for admission to the BDes or BFTech program in 2019. However, it will be conducting a personal interview for admission to MDes, MFTech and MFM programs in 2019.
Does NIFT provides residential facility?
NIFT provides residential accommodation for girls on most campuses. The hostels of NIFT operate on a no-profit and no-loss basis. All the hostel premises provide round-the-clock security, doctor-on-call, indoor and outdoor games, and television.
NIFT campuses that have accommodation for girls only: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Patna, and Shillong.
NIFT campuses that have accommodation for both boys and girls: Chennai, Jodhpur, Mumbai, and Rae Bareilly. There is no residential facility on campus at New Delhi.
What is the reservation of seats available?
In accordance with rules of Government of India, citizens get reservation of seats on the basis of following categories:
- General seats reservation is 50.5%.
- SC seat reservation is 15%.
- OBC-NC seat reservation is 27%.
- ST seat reservation is 7.5%.
