All about NID Admission 2021-22: Application, Eligibility, Paper Pattern, Dates

The National Institute of Design conducts the NID entrance exam each year. It serves as the benchmark for the admission of eligible applicants to different design courses.

What programs does NID offer?

The National Institute of Design (NID) offers B.Des, M.Des, and Ph.D. courses in design for those who aspire to carve out a career in design.

What is the eligibility for admission to NID?

Only eligible candidates are entitled to take admission to NID for B.Des and M.Des courses. One needs to meet both the age and qualification criteria to be eligible.

B.Des (age and qualification criteria):

  • Indian applicants who belong to the General and General EWS categories and are born on or after July 1, 2001, are eligible for admission.
  • Indian applicants who belong to the Reserved Category (OBCs) and are born on or after July 1, 2001, are eligible for admission.
  • Indian applicants who belong to the PwD Reserved Category and are born on or after July 1, 1996, are eligible for admission.
  • Foreign nationals who belong to the Overseas Category and are born on or after July 1, 2001, are eligible.
  • Candidates who have either passed their 10+2 examination or will take this examination in the academic year qualify for admission.
  • Candidates from science, arts, and commerce stream are eligible.

M.Des (age and qualification criteria):

  • Indian applicants who belong to the General and General EWS categories and are born on or after July 1, 1991, are eligible for admission.
  • Indian applicants who belong to the Reserved Category (OBCs) and are born on or after July 1, 1988, are eligible for admission.
  • Indian applicants who belong to the PwD Reserved Category and are born on or after July 1, 1986, are eligible for admission.
  • Foreign nationals who belong to the Overseas Category and are born on or after July 1, 1991, are eligible.
  • Candidates with three or four years of Bachelor’s degree in any stream and diploma of 4 years after 12th stream.
  • You will be eligible for admission by submitting your provisional or graduation certificate by the end of June 2021.

What is NID’s admission process?

To qualify for admission, an aspirant needs to clear DAT and studio test phases. A candidate must clear the DAT phase to appear for the studio test. Depending on the marks they secure in the latter phase, the institute publishes a merit list.

What is the pattern of the NID entrance exam?

The pattern for Entrance Exam 2021:

  •  Maximum number of marks: 100
  •  Duration:

3 hours

  •  Mode of examination: Offline
  •  Language: English
  •  Type of questions: Visual and textual

The pattern for the DAT Mains – M.Des programme:

  •  Studio test: The questions of the examination will be in English. To answer the question paper of 100 marks, candidates will have 3 hours.
  •  Interview: The interview will be held after the completion of the studio test.

What is the passing score / cut off for NID DAT Mains? What is the expected cut off for NID DAT Mains 2019?

The cut-off marks are the minimum number of marks that a candidate must secure to be eligible for admission to B.Des and M.Des courses. It varies for candidates, depending on their background. The qualifying percentiles for open category, OBC-NCL, and SC/ST/PwD categories are 50, 45, and 40, respectively.
