Introduction to NIFT and its campuses:

The National Institute of Fashion Technology also commonly known as NIFT is the best fashion institute in the country. NIFT was established in the year 1986 under the Ministry Of Textiles, Government of India. In 2006, it was declared as an autonomous institute and now has the power to grant its degree, according to the Act of Indian Parliament.

Currently, NIFT has around 19 campuses across the country. The first campus was established in the capital of Delhi in 1986. The campuses at Chennai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad and Mumbai were set up by 1995 and the Bangalore campus in 1997. NIFT Industry Engagement

NIFT has recently introduced a new curriculum that aims to give students a very natural learning experience, so that they can not just learn, but understand the process of the fashion industry. Industry engagement is all about providing the aspirants with an adequate amount of exposure to the real-life working environment of the fashion industry so that they can grow in their desired path, and become efficient and successful professionals in the future. With this, students have the opportunity to engage and work under existing professionals in the industry and also receive guidance from both the industry and also the institute.

What activities are conducted under industry engagement?

Under industry engagement, students can interact with the industry leaders and the alumni while being in the classroom. They will receive classroom projects that are sponsored, access to various exhibitions and fairs, exclusive internships, practical learning experience from the industry and industrial visits too. All these activities are a part of the curriculum at NIFT campuses in different parts of the country.

How is the placement process at NIFT?

The placement process at NIFT is centralized. Fashion companies can have the chance to employ any student from any course and any campus of the institute through two mediums.

Pre-Placement Offers:

Under this process, companies can offer a job to students before the on-campus placement. If the student accepts the offer, then it is said to be placement. Keeping in mind that all the students should have an equal opportunity, students placed through this above process are not permitted to participate in the on-campus placement. Companies make these offers based on internships, training and projects.

On-Campus Placements:

For on-campus placements, companies have to get themselves registered first. They can visit the campus for placements, after confirming a date and time.

Off-Campus Placement:

After campus placements, NIFT continues to offer job opportunities through off-campus drives via the Industry & Alumni Affairs (I&AA) unit. Placements at NIFT are improving, with more overseas opportunities, pre-placement offers, and higher salaries. NIFT’s updated curriculum includes new areas like disruptive technologies and greater industry engagement.
