Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD)

Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) was first registered as Institute of Crafts, Jaipur on 20th April 1995 by the Registrar of Societies, Rajasthan, Jaipur under “Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958.” The Vision of IICD is to continue to invigorate the craft sector and to become the Centre of Excellence in Crafts & Design, encouraging research and bringing new life to the languishing crafts of India. As a pioneer in the area of craft design, the Institute works towards the evolution of crafts and artisans in the contemporary socio -economic context. Learning at IICD happens in a vibrant environment of experimentation and innovation.

IICD was first registered as Institute of Crafts, Jaipur on 20th April, 1995.


IICD is an autonomous institute affiliated to the Govt. of Rajasthan.

The Foreign Nationals / NRI candidates seeking admission to IICD must have qualifications similar or equivalent to that required for Indian Candidates.


  • The candidates selected under this category would need to obtain a valid residential permit or student visa for the prescribed duration of the programme
  • The candidates must go through the process of entrance exam. In case they are unable to travel to one of the centers in India, they would be required to send the following :

a. Statement of purpose

b. Portfolio or work samples, latest by 13/04/18 (Friday) to admissions@iicd.ac.in.


  • The medium of instruction at IICD is English and all aspirants applying to IICD are expected to possess working knowledge of the English language.

The reservation percentages of categories for admission in IICD are as follows :

  • 15% for SC
  • 7.5% for SC
  • 3% for PH candidates

The Admission process fee for Indian Candidates is Rs.1,500 and for NRI/ Foreign National Candidates is Rs. 3000. The fee is non refundable.



Following is the Entrance Exam Pattern :


a) General Awareness, Creativity & Perception Test
Test is designed to judge the abilities such as estimation of sizes and proportion, observation, synthesis and visual interpretation and general awareness.

b) Material, Color & Conceptual Test
This test will assess the following abilities :

  • Intelligent use of materials, conceptualize and realize a 3 dimensional form, skill of handling material.
  • To observe, think and expand ideas, create solution based on a plan and strategy.
  • Ability to provide multiple solutions to the given problem with written description.
    • Material required for Material, Color & Conceptual Test: pens, pencils (2B, 4B & 6B), scissor, scale, cello tape, paper cutter, fevistick, eraser, color pencils/dry pastels/water color etc.


c) Interview
To evaluate the individual personality in the prospective candidates :


  • Aptitude to crafts
  • Intelligence quotient (IQ)
  • Communication Ability
  • General Awareness about Crafts & Design
  • Overall Personal Achievements in academics and co-curricular activities.


d) Portfolio
It is advisable to bring some examples of your creative work to show the interview panel. This would help them understand your capabilities. It could be anything that you have done yourself including sketches, paintings, embroidery, photography, or creative writings.





The IICD Entrance Test will be conducted at eleven locations as mentioned below. The candidates can indicate their choice of 3 test centers in order of preferences.
