Admissions to NID 2025 – Applications, Eligibility Criteria, Pattern, Topics
NID 2025 Application Form has been released on Tuesday, 03 September 2024 for B.Des. and M.Des. courses. NID Entrance exam is conducted every year on a national level. It is organized by the National Institute of Design. Through this entrance exam, the admissions are offered in Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Masters of Design (M.Des.) and PhD in Design. The exam is conducted as prelims and mains. Admission will be provided at NID situated in Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Kurukshetra, Vijayawada and Bangalore.

What is the eligibility for admission to NID 2021 ?
For B.Des. programs:
Age Limit –
General and General EWS Category: Candidates born on or after July 1, 2004, can apply.
Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): Candidates born on or after July 1, 2001, can apply.
PwD Reserved Category: Candidates born on or after July 1, 1999, can apply.
Foreign Nationals (Overseas Category): Candidates born on or after July 1, 2004, can apply.
Educational Qualification –
Applications for the 2025-26 academic year are open to students who have completed or will complete their 10+2 exams in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognized board like CBSE, IB, ICSE, or equivalent in the 2024-25 academic year.
10+2 exam from a recognized Central or State Board.
Two-year pre-University exam recognized by AIU.
Final exam at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
Senior Secondary School exam from the National Institute of Open Schooling with at least five subjects.
Any recognized 10+2 equivalent exam in India or abroad.
H.S.C. vocational exam.
GCE Advanced (A) level exam from London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.
AICTE-approved three-year Diploma after Class X.
For M.Des. programs:
Age Limit
General and General EWS Category: Candidates born on or after July 1, 1993, can apply.
Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): Candidates born on or after July 1, 1990, can apply.
PwD Reserved Category: Candidates born on or after July 1, 1988, can apply.
Foreign Nationals (Overseas Category): Candidates born on or after July 1, 1993, can apply.
Educational Qualification –

- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree: Must be completed after 12th standard. All exams and backlogs must be done by June 28, 2025.

- 4-year Full-time Diploma: Must be in Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts, or Architecture after 12th standard. All exams and backlogs must be done by June 28, 2025.

- 3-year Bachelor’s Degree: Must be completed after 12th standard. All exams must be passed by August 2024.

- Final-year students of Bachelor’s or Full-time Diploma programs can apply to NID even if they haven’t received their final degree certificate by the application deadline.

- They must have completed all exams and backlogs by June 28, 2025.

- They need to submit a certificate from their college/university by July 3, 2025, confirming they finished their final exams by June 28, 2025.

- They must submit their final results/marksheets by July 31, 2025.

- If they don’t submit the final results by July 31, 2025, their provisional admission will be cancelled, and the fees will be forfeited.
What is the pattern of the NID 2025 entrance exam?
Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) – Prelims (B.Des)
- The DAT Prelims is a written exam for 3 hours for 100 marks. It has 2 sections-
- Section 1 – Objective Type Questions
- Section 2 – Subjective Type Questions
- There is no fixed weightage for the 2 sections. It varies from year to year. The weightage for last 4 years is as follows:

- The DAT prelims is a screening test for Stage 2.
- The DAT prelims score is expected to carry a 20% weightage in the final score.
Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) – Mains
- Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for the DAT Mains.
- Generally, candidates equal to 3 times the number of seats are called for DAT Mains.
- The DAT Mains will be for about 3 hours and 100 marks and will consist of Studio Test & Interview*.
- Candidates get a final merit score and merit rank based on marks obtained in DAT Prelims and NID Mains. The weightage given to marks at each stage is:
