History and Background of NID Assam

The National Institute of Design (NID) Assam, established under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is located in Jorhat. Founded to promote design education in the region, its foundation stone was laid in 2011 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and officially inaugurated in 2019.

NID Assam offers a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program with specialisations in Textile & Apparel Design, Communication Design, and Industrial Design. The campus features modern facilities, including studios, workshops, and a knowledge management centre, providing a vibrant learning environment.

NID Assam’s establishment as part of the National Design Policy aims to create a design-enabled innovation economy and strengthen design education in India.
