Welcome to the admission guidelines for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program. If you have qualified for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED), congratulations on taking this significant step towards a career in design. This guide outlines the essential criteria and procedures for UCEED-qualified candidates seeking admission to the B.Des program. It covers everything from eligibility requirements and application procedures to important dates and documentation, ensuring you have all the information you need to navigate the admission process successfully.
Understanding the Basics
UCEED is the Common Entrance Exam for Design [UG] conducted by IIT Bombay. UCEED is the entrance exam for admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs at IIT Bombay, IIT DELHI, IIT HYDERABAD, IIT GUWAHATI, IIITDM JABALPUR, IIT ROORKEE
Admission to B.Des Program at IITs
- The common application form will be available through the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal.
- The link for the application form will be on the official UCEED website (www.uceed.iitb.ac.in).
- Fill in your personal details and select your preferred institutes by indicating the order of preference.
- Submit the application after paying the processing fee, uploading digital copies of supporting documents, and signing the first page of the completed application form.
- The online application form includes detailed instructions for each step. Required supporting documents include digital copies of:
- Photograph
- Signature
- UCEED Score Card
- Class XII (or equivalent) Mark Sheet
- EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST Certificate (if applicable)
- PwD Certificate (if applicable)
- OCI/PIO Card (if applicable)
- UCEED and B.Des admissions are separate processes. The UCEED category-wise rank indicates your position in your category at the time of result declaration.
- Seat allocation is based on All-India Rank (merit order), reservation category, and seat availability at each institute.
- Admissions may be revoked if any information provided is incorrect or the application is incomplete.
- Admission offers during the online seat allocation process are provisional until fees are paid, documents are verified, and formalities are completed by the admitting institutes.
- Once counseling is closed, shifting from one institute to another is not possible.
Admission Schedule:-
To stay on track, here are the key dates for the B.Des admission process:

Seat Allotment:-
- FIVE rounds of seat allocation will be conducted. However, the seat allocation will be closed once the seats are filled.
- A seat will be provisionally allotted based on the applicant’s All India Rank (AIR) in UCEED 2025, category and choice of institutes.
- Selected candidates will be sent provisional allotment letters via their registered email. They will be directed to an online payment system to remit the Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹60,000 (Rupees Sixty Thousand only) for GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹ 15,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Thousand only) for SC/ST/PwD.
Eligibility Criteria for applying for BDes
To apply for admission to the BDes programmes of the participating institutes, i.e., IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur, an applicant is required to fulfill ALL the following three criteria simultaneously.
Criterion 1 – Age limit:
The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 2000 if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and, on or after October 1, 1995 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.
Criterion 2 – UCEED qualification:
The candidate should have qualified, i.e., obtained a rank, in UCEED 2025.
Criterion 3 – Qualifying examination:
- Candidates must pass all five subjects in their Class XII (or equivalent) exam in 2024 or 2025.
- Those who appeared for their qualifying exam in 2023 or earlier are not eligible.
- Science stream candidates with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur.
- Candidates from any other stream (Science without Mathematics or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, Arts & Humanities) can apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Hyderabad.
- Admission to the B.Tech. in Design at IIT Delhi requires JEE (Advanced) ranking and UCEED qualification.
- For B.Des. at IIITDM Jabalpur, only students with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology at 10+2 can apply. Students from Commerce, Arts, or Humanities at 10+2 are not eligible.
- For IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee, only Science stream candidates with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can apply. Others are not eligible.
- Candidates appearing for their Class XII (or equivalent) exam in 2025 must:
– Complete all parts of their final exam by the application date.
– Submit proof of passing by September 30, 2025. - If the exam board provides only letter grades, candidates must obtain and upload a certificate specifying the passing grade.
- These criteria apply to all applicants, including foreign nationals.
- Seats for foreign nationals are supernumerary, capped at 10% of the total seats in a program.
- Foreign nationals with OCI/PIO cards issued before March 4, 2021, are considered under the OPEN category, not under reserved categories.
