The Background about NATA & JEE Architecture Entrance Exams

Students who would like to pursue Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) after XII grade need to give entrance exam for admission to Architecture colleges. Admission is based on 50% XII grade marks + 50% entrance exam marks. There are 3 types of entrance exams:
1. National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) – Private colleges across India and colleges affiliated to some state boards (e.g. Maharashtra) accept NATA scores. NATA 2017 will be held on only 1 date i.e. 16 Apr 2017
2. Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) – Admission to IITs, NITs and SPAs is on the basis of JEE scores. For admission to IITs students need to give JEE Paper 1 (same as Engineering). For admission to NITs & SPAs, students need to give JEE Paper 2. JEE exam is on 3rd Apr 2016.
3. State level Common Admission Tests (CATs) – Colleges affiliated to some state boards still continue to accept State level CAT scores (e.g. Karnataka). Others have moved to accepting either NATA or JEE scores (e.g. Maharashtra has scrapped MH-AAR-CAT with effect from 2013).

Aesthetic Sensitivity / General Aptitude (MCQ) 80 This is a multiple choice test. There are 40 questions each of 2 marks. The questions are aimed at testing basic mental abilities (e.g. Quantitative Abilities, Analytical thinking, English) and architectural awareness of the students.
